About project
Aurora is an ambitious e-learning platform redesign for TU Wien, aimed at transforming how students interact with online education. The goal? To replace outdated, cumbersome systems with a user-friendly, visually engaging, and highly intuitive platform that makes learning more accessible and enjoyable.
Despite being paused, this project exemplifies the power of thoughtful research and design to elevate the e-learning experience.
Challenge and context
Online education is often plagued by clunky interfaces and uninspiring designs. Aurora sought to change that narrative by focusing on:
Simplified navigation to ensure students can effortlessly find their way.
Tools like a unified calendar view to help learners stay on top of their study schedules.
Interactive and visually engaging slides to make even the densest topics approachable.
Aurora wasn’t just a redesign—it was a reimagining of what e-learning could be.
Process
Research & discovery
I conducted an in-depth survey with TU Wien students to uncover their expectations, frustrations, and desires regarding educational interfaces. This exploration revealed key insights into navigation pain points, interface preferences, and the need for features that support collaboration and self-paced learning.
Reorganized navigation
Aurora replaced confusing menus with a clean, intuitive structure that makes accessing courses, modules, and resources effortless.
Home and calendar views
The new dashboard greeted users with personalized onboarding and a calendar overview to keep students organized and focused.
Slide and course design
From bite-sized infographics to engaging visuals, every slide was meticulously crafted to transform complex concepts into captivating learning experiences.
Collaborative learning
Discussion forums and group project features fostered community and collaboration, making learning not just an individual journey but a shared experience.
Lessons learned
While the project is currently on hold, Aurora laid the groundwork for a forward-thinking e-learning platform. The insights gained continue to influence how I approach complex, user-centered design challenges. I’m excited about the possibility of revisiting this project and pushing the boundaries of online education at TU Wien.
